At Citizens, we’re transforming financial services with digital experiences that are simple, human, and accessible to all. We’re looking for a Director of Design Engineering to lead our front-end engineering team and scale our design system (designsystem.citizensbank.com) into a world-class platform that powers efficiency and consistency across the enterprise.

As Director of Design Engineering, you’ll build and mentor a team of engineers who bridge design and technology—delivering reusable, coded components that bring our design standards to life. You’ll partner closely with UX Design, Accessibility, Research, Product, and Engineering leadership to scale and expand a team truly dedicated to Front End expertise.

What you’ll do

  • Lead, grow, and mentor a team of front-end engineers focused on Front End development expertise.
  • Driving the success of the Citizens Design System by managing intake of requests, working with internal partners, and helping prioritize system features.
  • Drive the development and adoption of scalable, reusable components that power Citizens’ design system.
  • Partners with design and product teams to validate, test, and optimize patterns for usability and performance.
  • Advocate standards and design system adoption across the enterprise in roadshows, education, presentations, and building relationships across the organization.

What we’re looking for

  • 10+ years in front-end development experience, with 5+ years in leadership roles.
  • Proven experience building and scaling design systems in enterprise environments.
  • Deep technical expertise in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, TypeScript (or similar frameworks).
  • Understanding of Mobile Development practices in iOS and Android, using Cotlin and Swift.
  • A collaborative leader who can inspire teams and influence across design, product, and engineering.
  • Knowledge and understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG) is a plus.
