Our Commitment to
Workforce Development
At Citizens, building a future-ready workforce drives everything we do. It’s how we set up our company, colleagues, and communities for long-term success. By investing in professional growth and creating meaningful community partnerships, we help people unlock opportunities and shape brighter futures.
Microcredentials Unlock Skills and Employment
What if the fastest route to your next career move isn’t a four-year degree, but a focused credential that gets you job-ready in months? Microcredentials are short-term, skill-specific learning programs designed to bridge the gap between education and workforce needs. Unlike traditional degree programs, these focused credentials take less time and resources to complete while providing learners with industry-recognized qualifications tailored to specific career paths.
Since 2021, we’ve committed $1.6 million to expand our Community College Accelerator program in partnership with Education Design Lab (EDL). Working directly with community colleges, EDL helps convene local industry leaders to provide input on the curriculum design of microcredential programs that upskill students to learn the specific skills needed to succeed in fields in high demand in that region. The Citizens Community College Accelerator program has helped fund programs for a range of skills needed in roles spanning hospitality, software engineering, medical and pharmacy, banking, insurance sales and more.

A Journey
Across Possibilities
We’re proud to make possible a PBS documentary by Roadtrip Nation to showcase the transformative power of short-term microcredential programs. The film will follow three selected “roadtrippers” as they travel across the U.S., sharing their own journeys and meeting professionals whose microcredentials were pivotal in accelerating their careers.
