Description

Communications Director, Transformation Communications

Do you want to join a high-energy communications team at the forefront of Citizens’ “Reimagine the Bank” transformation? Are you passionate about challenging the status quo, shaping the future of banking, and bringing bold, creative ideas to life?

Citizens is undergoing a firm-wide Transformation—Reimagine the Bank—that will modernize, simplify, and future-proof our organization for colleagues and customers alike. We are seeking a Communications Director to partner with the Transformation Office (TO), the team leading this ambitious effort. Reporting to the Head of Enterprise Communications, this senior leader will be pivotal in designing and delivering high-impact, strategic communications that proactively engage colleagues around the TO’s priorities and objectives, inspiring action and alignment across the company.

This role will develop and execute innovative communications strategies and compelling content that not only aligns with Citizens’ broader vision but also resonates deeply with colleagues. The Communications Director will collaborate closely with Human Resources and the team responsible for our People agenda to connect transformation efforts to our evolving culture, talent, and leadership.

We’re looking for a communicator who thrives on driving bold change—a forward-thinking leader, passionate about transformation, who blends strategic storytelling, persuasive influence, and cutting-edge technology (including Gen AI) to inform and inspire both internal and external audiences. The Communications Director will work in close partnership with communications colleagues across all lines of business, functions, and regions to ensure a unified and impactful narrative.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the implementation of communications strategies and tactical plans that drive awareness, understanding, and engagement with “Reimagine the Bank” transformation priorities.
  • Advise and support leaders and partners to deliver consistent, authentic messaging that is clear, conversational, and energizing.
  • Develop breakthrough communications tactics—leveraging digital, video, town halls, and emerging channels—to connect with colleagues and foster a culture of innovation and agility.
  • Support external communications as needed, ensuring alignment with Citizens’ transformation narrative.

Qualifications:

  • Deep knowledge of integrated communications and at least 6 years of progressive responsibility in strategic storytelling and change communications, ideally within a large, complex organization.
  • Proven leadership in implementing initiatives and motivating others to contribute to a shared vision.
  • Exceptional communication skills (written, verbal, and interpersonal), including the ability to influence senior executives and drive alignment.
  • Strong understanding of the banking industry, including regulatory requirements and reputational risk factors.
  • Outstanding organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Key Competencies:

  • Calm and composed under pressure; able to navigate ambiguity and change with confidence.
  • Strategic thinker and creative problem-solver.
  • Strong relationship-building and influencing skills across diverse teams.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
  • Collaborative mindset, with a passion for working across boundaries to achieve results.

Why Join Us? As Communications Director, Transformation, you will play a critical role in shaping and communicating Citizens’ bold transformation journey.
