Overview

The Commercial Business Development Officer is responsible for identifying, sourcing, and converting highquality prospects into new commercial banking clients. The target market consists of companies with annual revenues between $50MM and $800MM. This individual will serve as a frontline growth engine—building relationships, developing a strategic pipeline, and partnering with internal teams to deliver tailored banking solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Prospecting & Lead Generation

  • Identify and source potential commercial clients through targeted market research, referrals, COI networks, industry intelligence, and event participation.

  • Develop and execute a structured prospecting strategy to build and maintain a highquality pipeline of new business opportunities.

  • Initiate contact with senior decisionmakers and collaborate with commercial bankers to assemble the right internal team for each opportunity.

  • Assist in preparing client presentations, pitch materials, and customized solution proposals.

  • Stay current on market trends, competitive dynamics, and industry developments to position the bank as a trusted commercial banking leader.

Relationship Building

  • Work collaboratively with Relationship Managers and other internal partners to develop competitive solutions.

  • Actively represent the bank at industry, community, and networking events to enhance brand presence and generate new leads.

  • Demonstrate a highly sociable, engaging, and adaptable approach that thrives in a fastpaced and evolving business environment.

Performance Metrics

  • Maintain accurate and timely records of prospecting activity, pipeline status, and outcomes within CRM tools.

  • Meet or exceed established goals, calling activity expectations, and new business development.

  • Success will be measured by the ability to develop qualified leads, close new business, and contribute meaningfully to portfolio growth, and revenue.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Proficiency with CRM platforms and prospecting tools.

  • Entrepreneurial selfstarter with a disciplined, resilient, and detailoriented approach.

  • Strong understanding of the commercial banking sales cycle, from lead generation to close.

  • Team player and have ability to collaborate internally and externally to win new business
  • A genuine willingness to learn continuously—products, services, industry trends—and pursue relevant licensing as needed.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication, including strong presentation and negotiation skills.

  • Strong listening skills and strong problemsolving and analytical capabilities.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5+ years of successful experience in commercial banking or financial services, sales roles.

  • Strong understanding of commercial banking products, and services

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or a related field

  • Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining COI relationships.

  • Prior experience attending and leveraging networking and industry events.

  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively across an organization.

  • Completion of formal sales training is a plus.

  • Willingness to travel for prospect and COI meetings.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • MBA a plus

Hours per Week:  40

Work Schedule:  Monday - Friday
