Commercial Credit Risk Senior Director

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced credit executive to lead the Commercial & Industrial (C&I) Credit Risk function for the Corporate Banking division. This role is responsible for managing credit risk across all industry verticals, including, but not limited to industrials, energy, transportation, technology, healthcare, aerospace and defense, and financial services.  The role is also responsible for leading a team of geographically dispersed Senior Credit Officers with deep sector expertise and delegated approval authorities.

This highly visible leadership role requires strategic vision, sound judgment, and the ability to operate decisively in a fast-paced, multi-dimensional environment. The ideal candidate will have over 20 years of experience in credit risk management at major financial institutions and possesses deep knowledge of regulatory frameworks, underwriting standards, capital markets products, and workout strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Portfolio Leadership & Strategy:
    Lead the strategic direction and risk oversight of a complex C&I credit portfolio, ensuring alignment with the bank’s risk appetite, growth objectives, and regulatory expectations.
  • Team Management & Development:
    Manage and mentor a team of senior Credit Officers across multiple geographies. Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning, while ensuring consistent credit standards and decision-making across sectors.
  • Credit Decisioning & Governance:
    Hold delegated credit authority for high-value transactions and provide recommendations for credits exceeding approval thresholds Advise and guide senior credit officers as appropriate in highly visible, complex deal situations. Serve as a senior voice in credit discussions, policy forums, and risk governance bodies.
  • Sector Expertise & Transactional Support:
    Leverage specialized industry knowledge to support complex credit structures, including leveraged finance, acquisition financing, and syndicated loans. Partner with Corporate & Investment Banking and Capital Markets teams to deliver tailored client solutions.
  • Regulatory & Risk Management Leadership:
    Represent the credit function in regulatory exams, internal audits, and model validation reviews. Contribute to the formation of risk appetite, policy enhancements, and strategic initiatives.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:
    Act as a senior advisor to Relationship Managers, Portfolio Managers, and business line leaders. Participate in client meetings to assess creditworthiness and support informed decision-making.

Qualifications:

  • 20+ years of commercial credit experience at major banks, with a strong track record in managing large, complex portfolios.
  • Demonstrated leadership in managing high-performing credit teams across diverse geographies and sectors.
  • Deep understanding of regulatory requirements, underwriting practices, and capital markets products.
  • Demonstrated experience adjudicating credit decisions and decisively exercising credit approval authority.
  • Experience and knowledge of leveraged finance, special assets, and workout scenarios.
  • Strong executive presence and ability to influence senior stakeholders across the organization.

The salary range for this position is $220,000-$340,000 per year, plus an opportunity to earn an annual discretionary bonus. Actual pay is based on various factors including but not limited to the work location, and relevant skills and experience.
