Principal Business Insights Analyst – Consumer Banking

Description: The Consumer Lending Strategy & Business Analytics team at Citizens advises senior leadership with actionable insights that shape day-to-day execution and long-term strategy. As a Principal Business Insights Analyst, you will act as a strategic partner to leadership—setting analytic standards, architecting scalable data solutions, and delivering executive-ready insights. You will lead cross-functional initiatives, mentor analysts, and ensure rigor, governance, and adoption.

Locations & Work Arrangement: Candidates must be based in or willing to commute to one of the following hub locations with a hybrid schedule of four days onsite and one day remote per week with flexibility:

  • Columbus, OH
  • Johnston, RI – One Citizens Bank Way
  • Westwood, MA – 200 Station Drive

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead testing and insights across Retail, Private Client, Private Bank, and C2C; set methodology and standards.
  • Design statistically defensible sampling and test frameworks (power analysis, stratified sampling, A/B and quasi-experiments).
  • Build governed analytics assets (semantic models, curated tables, reusable Python/SQL libraries) for auditable results.
  • Analyze large datasets to identify risk patterns, root causes, and opportunities; convert findings into recommendations.
  • Deliver executive-ready narratives and dashboards; standardize business metrics and drive adoption.
  • Partner with Compliance, Audit, Model Risk, and examiners to ensure work is audit-ready and reproducible.
  • Mentor analysts and lead cross-functional projects to expand analytics capabilities.

Technical Skills:

  • SQL (Expert): window functions, performance tuning, query plan optimization, star/snowflake design, semantic layers.
  • Python (Advanced): pandas/PySpark, statsmodels/scikit-learn, hypothesis testing, time series, feature engineering, pytest.
  • Spark/Databricks: distributed processing, Delta Lake, orchestration, cost/performance tuning.
  • BI & Data Modeling: Power BI (DAX, tabular, RLS) and Tableau (LOD, server governance), metric standardization.
  • Cloud & Data Platform (Azure preferred): ADLS, Synapse/Fabric, Purview, Git, CI/CD (Azure DevOps), secrets management.
  • Data Quality & Controls: validation frameworks (e.g., Great Expectations), reproducibility, documentation aligned to OCC/CFPB/FDIC.
  • Experimentation & Causal Inference: test design, bias control, uplift modeling, practical causal methods.

Ideal Candidate:

  • 10+ years in risk, compliance, lending, or analytics (banking preferred); influence at VP+/C-suite level.
  • Strong knowledge of OCC, CFPB, and FDIC expectations.
  • Excellent communication and storytelling; ability to drive action with data.
  • Strong program/project leadership in ambiguous, dynamic environments.
  • Bachelor’s required; Master’s preferred.

  • Hours per Week: 40
  • Work Schedule: Monday–Friday

Pay Transparency

  • The salary range for this position is $140,000 - $170,000 per year plus an opportunity to earn an annual discretionary bonus. Actual pay is based on various factors including but not limited to the work location, and relevant skills and experience.
