Citizens is seeking a dynamic and intellectually curious Innovation Consultant to join our high-impact team.
This role offers a unique opportunity to work on a team that directly supports Citizens’ senior leadership—including the CEO, CFO, and Heads of Business—as a trusted advisor on enterprise-wide strategic initiatives. The Innovation Team serves as a catalyst for change, driving forward-thinking strategies across our portfolio, shaping our innovation roadmap, and fostering a culture of experimentation and continuous improvement across all 18,000 colleagues. We connect the dots between internal business challenges and external innovation partnering closely with venture capital firms and broader ecosystem partners to solve real-world business challenges and help the organization prepare for our next phase of growth.
The successful candidate will play a highly visible role at Citizens reporting to the SVP, Head of Innovation and will work cross-functionally across key business units- including Consumer, Commercial, Technology, HR and others to drive and collaborate on critical elements of Citizens’ innovation strategy.

This role is designed with upward mobility in mind and follows a traditional Sr. Consultant, Manager, Director career track.
Primary responsibilities:
- Analyze market, customer, and competitive trends: Identify emerging technologies and disruptive forces shaping the future of banking. Leverage insights to recommend strategic solutions that address customer needs and unlock new growth opportunities.
- Conduct strategic analyses across Citizens’ portfolio of businesses: Assess market dynamics, competitive positioning, product/channel opportunities, and value propositions. Collaborate with business leaders to develop and execute strategic initiatives.
- Scout and monitor emerging technologies, societal shifts and associated use cases: Support external engagement with accelerators, fintechs, venture capital firms, and other ecosystem partners to identify relevant use cases for our business.
Manage and support strategic business initiatives: Lead cross-functional efforts on emerging strategic topics—often rooted in disruptive technologies or meta-trends—that are not owned by any single business unit, but benefit from a centralized team orchestrating strategy and execution across the enterprise.
Contribute to the development and execution of Citizens’ innovation strategy: Provide thought leadership on disruptive trends, organize and communicate strategic priorities, and drive day-to-day execution of the broader innovation portfolio—both in-house and through external partnerships.
Develop and deliver high-impact presentations for senior leadership: Synthesize complex analyses into clear, actionable recommendations and strategic narratives for senior management and the Board of Directors.
- Advance Citizens Innovation culture and community building: Support the day-to-day execution of the innovation agenda at Citizens. This includes but is not limited to supporting our enterprise-wide innovation forums, innovation challenges, town halls, contributing to thought leadership on disruptive trends that are shaping the financial services industry, that culminate with our annual innovation report and other bespoke initiatives to help our colleagues think “outside in”.
- Support the broader Enterprise Strategy ecosystem: Embrace a “one-team” mindset and provide critical support to Enterprise Strategy and Corporate Development on an as needed basis, offering an opportunity to understand the full breadth of Citizens Consumer, Commercial and Private Bank businesses as well as support functions (finance, risk, HR, technology, marketing, analytics).
Qualifications:
- Required Skills / Experiences:
- 2-5 years of relevant work experience in management consulting, and / or strategy consulting, fintech, product development, or innovation incubator roles
- Strong Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel skills are required
- Familiarity and experience utilizing innovation processes, tool sets, and practices to help businesses invent and / re-think how to approach customer and colleague opportunities
Ability to multi-task, and support multiple streams of work in a fast-paced environment
Ability to think critically and communicate clearly (both oral and written), with executive presence
Exceptional problem solving and analytical capabilities
Passionate, highly motivated, self-driven, and a strong orientation to making change coupled with intellectual curiosity
Ability to influence and collaborate with executives and stakeholders across the organization
