The Controller’s Group at Citizens Bank is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical professional to join the Commercial Payment Reconciliation Team. This role is responsible for performing and reviewing general ledger account reconciliations across a variety of financial functions, including cash, accruals, suspense, foreign currency, intercompany accounts, and transaction processing systems.

As a key part of the bank’s internal control framework, this position partners closely with internal stakeholders to ensure timely, accurate, and policy-compliant reconciliations. The ideal candidate will bring a strong understanding of accounting principles, a critical eye for documentation, and a collaborative mindset to support financial integrity and operational excellence.

Primary responsibilities include

  • Prepare and maintain general ledger account reconciliations for various financial accounts.
  • Review and validate supporting documentation from business lines, providing effective challenge when necessary.
  • Coordinate workflow, ensure deadlines are met, and assist manager with departmental oversight.
  • Ensure all reconciliations comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and internal bank policies.
  • Support the preparation of schedules and documentation for financial reporting and external audits.
  • Collaborate with business units to resolve reconciliation-related issues and provide training or guidance as needed.
  • Perform analytical or more technically difficult projects as assigned.

Qualifications, Education, Certifications and/or Other Professional Credentials

  • Required Qualifications
    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
    • 2+ years of experience in accounting, reconciliation, or financial operations (banking experience preferred).
    • Strong understanding of GAAP and internal control principles.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with general ledger systems.
    • Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Hours per Week: 40
  • Work Schedule: M-F
