Business Line Controller

Description

This position is responsible for the oversight of business line accounting for the Bank's treasury function and the capital markets business. The position includes responsibility for accounting decisions, implementing changes as recommended by the Accounting Policy Group, business line accounting operations, reconciliations and internal controls. This position reports to the head of business line controllers and has a dotted line reporting structure to the business line finance Team.

Primary responsibilities include

  • Broad based accounting Leadership role with a wide range of responsibilities including accounting support of business line’s existing and new processes, products, projects and initiatives.
  • Lead the team responsible for the operational accounting and reporting for the Bank's balance sheet hedge strategies.
  • Establish and maintain comprehensive internal controls compliance program, including design, implementation, testing and assessment that will meet SOX requirements.
  • Lead continuous improvement in the areas of accounting operations, reconciliations and data quality that affect financial information.
  • Enhance control processes and accounting procedures to ensure accurate inputs to the financial statements.
  • Interface with the business Leadership team to drive analysis of business line performance, ensuring accuracy of attestation to Corporate accounting policies.
  • Develop strong relationships with internal stakeholders and audit teams to ensure effective utilization of resources.
  • Assist in the implementing and maintaining of multiple Corporate initiatives with direct exposure and reporting to Senior management.

Qualifications, Education, Certifications and/or Other Professional Credentials

  • Required Qualifications
    • Diversified accounting and financial reporting experience at large financial institutions
    • Expertise in derivatives and hedge accounting with proven track record for maintaining hedges in accordance with GAAP
    • Background in Treasury and Capital Markets products and services and the related accounting and operational activities
    • Experience interacting with senior management a plus
    • Solid understanding of accounting concepts and principles
    • Knowledge of SEC and other external financial reporting (i.e. Bank Regulatory Reporting)
    • Ability to handle a fast-paced environment and maintain confidentiality
    • Strong organizational, written, and verbal communications skills
    • Ability to actively participate in new and existing projects / initiatives
    • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting is required, CPA is preferred

    • Proficient with Bloomberg Hedge Accounting Module

  • Hours per Week: 40
  • Work Schedule: M-F 8-5
