Description
Citizens is looking for a Senior Communications Manager, supporting our Human Resources organization and the company’s People agenda to support the evolution of our culture, talent and leadership by delivering compelling and inspirational storytelling to internal and external stakeholders, capturing and evolving the hearts and minds of colleagues and leaders to enable the bank’s cultural transformation.
This role requires a communicator with expertise in change communications - a forward-thinking communicator, passionate about transformation—someone who blends strategic storytelling, persuasive tactics, and cutting-edge technology like Gen AI to inform and inspire an internal and external audience.
We’re seeking a strategic and purpose-driven communicator to join our HR communications team, advancing culture and change communications for key People initiatives. This individual will work closely with senior HR leaders and collaborate across the communications function to shape, deliver, and embed messaging that drives cultural transformation, colleague engagement, and behavior change.
The ideal candidate will possess a big picture perspective and ability to make nuanced connections to strengthen messaging and impact. They will embrace emerging technology and actively leverage Gen AI to elevate the impact of communications.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Change Communication & Enablement
- Support communications efforts for HR-led change initiatives
- Apply change management best practices to support adoption and behavior change through communications, ensuring connectivity to other HR change initiatives
- Ensure a targeted communications plan tailored for key audiences.
- Establish and manage a network of change champions and communicators across the business.
- Insight-Led and Creative Storytelling
- Use colleague survey results and sentiment data to guide messaging and content strategies.
- Identify and tell compelling colleague and leader stories that bring cultural shifts to life.
- Track communications effectiveness through KPIs, feedback loops, and engagement insights.
- Strategic Communications & Campaigns
- Design and execute integrated communications strategies aligned with business goals.
- Develop high impact content: thought leadership, and internal messaging, press releases, executive presentations.
- Breakthrough / Creative Internal & Executive Communications
- Drive internal communications initiatives that align with HR initiatives that are innovative and breakthrough.
- Establish and execute strategies to drive colleague alignment around business objectives and culture.
- Develop and maintain highly collaborative relationships at senior leadership levels and cross-functionally, ensuring effective communication and strategy alignment.
- Performance & Insights
- Monitor, analyze, and report on communications effectiveness using data-driven insights.
- Continuously refine strategies to improve engagement and impact.
- Other Change Communications Responsibilities:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.
- Partner across People Communications team as well as across Corporate Communications and Campaigns to advance People priorities, ensuring strong connectivity of messaging.
- Partner closely with HR partners, leaders and key stakeholders to drive the development and ongoing management of change communications plans and strategies, using a variety of integrated channels and tactics.
- Identify key metrics and measurement plans to ensure communication activities are efficient, effective and scalable.
- Qualifications:
- 8+ years of experience in Change Communications, corporate communications, or public relations, preferably within the financial services or regulated industries.
- Strong understanding of the banking industry, including regulatory requirements and reputational risk factors.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill complex information into clear, concise messaging.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.

Hours & Work Schedule
- Hours per Week: 40
- Work Schedule: M-F 8-5 3 days in Westwood MA or Johnston RI office 2 days from home.
