As the Business Banking Operations Underwriter PM I (UW I), you will be responsible for the daily underwriting of Business Lending Products in accordance with the Business Banking Credit Policy within the Citizens footprint up to a Total Credit Limit (TCL) of $250,000. The application decisions are made in a centralized environment (RELAY) utilizing a score underwriting and credit decision approach. All application decisions are within authorized credit authority limits and based on sound credit, bank's risk culture, risk evaluation, mitigation and proper loan structuring. This role also provides support to field personnel as it relates to the conditions, rate, risk mitigated with SBA, financial analysis and overall lending decision.
Primary responsibilities include
- Underwrite business credit applications independently using sound judgment, with single lending authority of $250,000. All decisions are made while adhering to the Business Banking Credit Policy.
- The UW is required to review all underwriting criteria, collateral, interest rate, fees and specific due diligence required for final approval. All exceptions to the policy must be properly approved by the Underwriting Manager. Credit reviews include analysis of external personal credit and business credit bureau reports and scores for the business and guarantors and all associated deposit accounts. Meet production expectations as measured by goal setting.
- Responsible for working with Business Banking Operations Closing to move approved applications through the process for quick closings. Second look applications are reviewed/discussed with the sales force, Credit Product Manager or closing team. The sales colleague may bring new information that can help approve a loc/loan request that was previously declined.
- Independently interact with Management, Sales colleagues, and SBA colleagues to discuss and resolve credit and risk related issues. The role requires independent review/ of business and personal credit reports, modification requests, collateral analysis, and standard due diligence for all loan requests.
- Specific tasks may include: Produce a high quality, concise, thoughtful credit proposal on a timely basis with analysis and documentation sufficient for the risk level to included understanding the borrower’s ability to repay, sponsor/guarantor analyses, being able to readily explain risk ratings, being able to accurately identify policy exceptions, special approval items, underwriting guidance variances, and risks/mitigants.
- Evaluate appropriateness of loan structure; work with RM and and others as needed to meet client needs while ensuring Bank’s credit risk profiles are maintained.
- Provide loan decisions and/or credit recommendations based on a review of all underwriting criteria, including appropriate level of credit analysis, loan structure, collateral, and specific due diligence conditions requirement for final approval.
- Actively and effectively manage multiple clients and transactions in a high-paced environment to meet defined SLA’s and production expectations as measured by goal setting metrics’ production commensurate with type & complexity of underwriting package.
- 3-5 years of direct lending experience and exhibited competency in various aspects of commercial lending /portfolio management including credit structuring, collateral analysis, understanding and applying credit policy, and credit monitoring and risk administration practices.
- Must demonstrate practical and conceptual knowledge of credit and risk analysis. Equivalent work experience may be considered as an alternative to formal degree program completion.
- Exhibits competency at independently reaching conclusions and forms clear view of credit structure and business risk to Bank.
- General knowledge of loan and related legal documents.
- Strong communication skills; and ability to influence others by persuasively presenting thoughts and ideas to gain commitment and agreement for proposed ideas and solutions.
Qualifications, Education, Certifications and/or Other Professional Credentials
- Bachelor's Degree preferred

- Hours per Week: 40
- Work Schedule: Monday through Friday - 8AM to 5PM
