Description
Citizens is seeking a Senior Risk Manager to join our Operational Risk Management team, focusing on risks associated with the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and governance. This role provides independent oversight, review, and challenge of AI-related risks across the enterprise. The ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge of emerging risks associated with the use of AI and Generative AI, information security, data protection, operational risk best practices, US regulatory requirements, and the evolving landscape of AI within the banking industry.
Primary responsibilities include:
- AI Integration Oversight: Provide independent oversight, review, and challenge of risk management activities related to the integration of AI, particularly generative AI, in business processes. This includes evaluating the effectiveness of formal risk program activities such as Risk and Control Self-Assessments, Issues Management, Material Risk Identification, Change Management, and new business initiative risk assessments.
- Risk Advisory: Advise first-line risk partners on complex risk issues and challenges, identifying and assessing aggregate enterprise-wide risks. Collaborate with key stakeholders, including all three lines of defense, to escalate emerging risk issues requiring remediation and drive accountability.
- External Environment Monitoring: Stay informed about emerging risks within the industry and regulatory priorities. Assess how these changes impact the enterprise's risk profile and work with stakeholders to ensure appropriate mitigation strategies are in place.
- Subject Matter Expertise: Serve as a subject matter expert in the use of generative AI within operational risk management. Ensure all related risks and necessary controls are in place, including determining where new controls are needed and maintaining appropriate governance and evidence when AI is integrated into business products or services.
- Targeted Risk Assessments: Lead targeted risk assessments on emerging issues to provide an independent opinion on their impact on the enterprise.
- Governance and Efficiency: Operate within existing governance structures while seeking opportunities to enhance process efficiency and effectiveness. Manage applicable policy and program governance and perform assurance activities to assess corporate-wide compliance.
- Business Engagement: Actively engage with relevant business units to provide domain-relevant advice, monitoring, and credible expert challenge, ensuring the effective implementation of the Operational Risk Program.
Required Experience:
- 4+ years of risk management experience in the financial services industry.
- Demonstrated expertise in the use, integration, and governance of AI, including generative AI, within business products or services.
- Experience in an organization under strong regulatory oversight and scrutiny.
- Proven ability to develop and maintain high-impact relationships with senior executives.
- Expert knowledge of internal controls and risk assessment.
- Deep understanding of banking products and operations, regulatory requirements, and key processes, controls, and exposure areas.
- Decisiveness and sound judgment.
- Capacity to challenge the status quo.
- Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
Skills:
- Strong influencing and conflict resolution.
- Excellent business writing.
- Proven leadership and management skills in a professional environment.
Education/Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Preferred certifications: in AI/GenAI, Certified Internal Auditor, Regulatory Compliance Manager, Fraud Examiner, Public Accountant, Project Management Professional, Risk and Information System Controls, or other relevant risk certifications.
Hours & Work Schedule: Hybrid 3 days in our Boston, MA or Johnston, RI office, 2 working from home.
