As the Sr. Data Scientist within the Enterprise Data & Analytics function, you will work on building solutions using a range of AI/ML techniques applying it on payments data across various lines of businesses at Citizens Bank.

The Senior Data Scientist will be responsible for supporting a wide range of analytical functions, including but not limited to applying statistical tests, implementing machine learning algorithms, and insights developed with standard data mining frameworks to develop insights that are descriptive, predictive and prescriptive in nature. 

As a Sr. Data Scientist, you will work alongside other colleagues including lines of business, data & analytics, engineering and technology colleagues, and business subject matter experts and payment business teams to collect, organize, and prepare data, and to develop and analyze models, as well as build modular data science deliverables to provide and communicate insights using Agile sprint-based methods.

Primary Responsibility

  • Wrangling data from multiple payment data sources used across the bank including data lake, data marts as well as 3rd party data for building data science products.
  • Partner and provide thought leadership working with data engineering and data architecture teams to provide payments data expertise for building reusable analytical engineering products.
  • Build highly specific analysis and insights using a variety of data mining techniques applied to payments data and customer behavior as observable through payment trends, usage and patterns.
  • Performing full life cycle data science implementation in support of stakeholder business objective and strategic analytical initiatives: including data assessment, exploratory data analysis, model development, model evaluation, model deployment and monitoring by leveraging structured, unstructured, and temporal data.
  • Support ad-hoc analysis as prioritized by the business stakeholders and the Enterprise Data / Analytics leadership.
  • Take ownership of developing and deploying customer facing analytical products working with a cross-functional team to design, engineer, test and learn through Agile methodology for different stakeholder groups.
  • Prepare model documentation and lead the support for model validation, internal audit, and regulatory reviews.

Qualifications 

Required Skills/Experience

  • 3-10 years of work experience in building, testing, and deploying machine learning models in production. 
  • Experience working with Payments standards such as NACHA, ISO, PCI/DSS and/or experience working with core banking platforms.
  • Fluent programming skills in Python including experience with packages such as Pandas, Scikit-learn and SQL to process data and experienced working with large data sets.
  • Strong verbal communication skills required with an ability to successfully communicate analytic results, business insights, and resulting business implications to non-technical business partners.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and collaborate with colleagues with diverse skills and background.

Required Education 

Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science or degree in Business or Finance with quantitative specialization.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with distributed/parallel computing tools such as Spark, Hadoop
  • Experience using cloud compute infrastructure such as AWS
  • Highly Desirable: Experience / Working knowledge of Payments/Treasury products.

Desired Education

  • Preferred: Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics or Statistics, or Business  or Finance degree with quantitative specialization.

Pay Transparency 

The salary range for this position is $110,000- $140,000 per year plus an opportunity to earn an annual discretionary bonus. Actual pay is based on various factors including but not limited to the work location, and relevant skills and experience.
