Citizens is looking for a highly motivated, results-oriented attorney to join its Legal team in a fast-paced environment, supporting the origination and servicing/collections of Citizens’ Mortgage, Home Equity, Student, Credit Card and unsecured lending programs.  We envision the individual initially supporting senior attorneys and developing into a key attorney in dedicated areas. Citizens has grown to be a top fifteen consumer bank lending and deposit franchise in the United States and the successful candidate will have mobility opportunities to support other areas in the growing Consumer and Private Bank legal over time.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Trusted advisor to Citizens Consumer Lending businesses, which includes originations, servicing and collections of mortgages, home equity lines of credit, student loans and other unsecured credit.
  • Work closely with senior attorneys, management and other colleagues on new initiatives, problem solving and escalated customer issues.
  • Research, analyze and provide sound legal advice on legal and compliance matters related to existing and evolving financial products and services.
  • Serve as trusted advisor to clients on initiatives, strategic planning, internal audit and regulatory exam support, contract interpretation/negotiation and dispute resolution. 
  • Stay up to date on laws and regulatory issues dealing with areas of responsibility.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of law firm or in-house experience. 
  • Familiarity with FDCPA/Regulation F, FCRA, TILA/Regulation Z, E-Sign, and UDAAP.
  • Familiarity with bank branch operations matters. 
  • Familiarity with payment processing, ACH, Regulation E, NACHA rules.

  • The perseverance and patience necessary to work through ambiguity and see a matter through to completion.
  • The ability to see past the immediate question and understand the broader implications and wider strategy.
  • Ability to comfortably operate in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment and ability to stay calm when the pressure is on.
  • Highly collaborative team player with a positive attitude and good sense of humor.

 Education, Certifications and/or Other Professional Credentials:

  • JD or equivalent, strong academic credentials and admission to at least one U.S. bar required.

Hours & Work Schedule: Hybrid, 3 days in the office, 2 days’ work from home.

  • Hours per Week: 40
  • Work Schedule: Monday-Friday
  • Limited travel

Pay Transparency:

The salary range for this position is $127,000 - $145,000.00 per year, plus an opportunity to earn an annual discretionary bonus. Actual pay is based on various factors including but not limited to the work location, and relevant skills and experience.
