Description
The SBA Operations Director is responsible for managing and overseeing the operational aspects of Small Business Administration (SBA) lending. This role ensures compliance with SBA regulations, enhances process efficiency, and provides leadership to the SBA operations and sales teams.
The SBA Operations Director leads the operations team to support SBA loan origination, servicing, and compliance. This position ensures that all SBA loans adhere to regulatory requirements, organizational policies, and SBA Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). The role involves process optimization, team management, and fostering a culture of high performance and compliance.
Responsibilities:
Team Leadership:
- Supervise and mentor SBA operations staff, including underwriters, processors, and loan closers.
- Develop training programs to ensure the team remains knowledgeable about SBA guidelines and updates.
- Works closely with COO, Market Executive, and SBA Sales Leader in cultivating GTM strategy to reach targeted growth objectives.
Operational Oversight:
- Manage end-to-end operations for SBA loans, from application through funding and servicing.
- Oversee the loan packaging process to ensure accuracy and compliance with SBA standards.
- Monitor the quality and timeliness of loan processing and closing.
- Serve as authorizing official for the bank in the Capital Access Financial System and all related applications, E-tran, SBA One, Parris, etc.
- Management of all SBA examinations; full, partial and Iperia reviews, including serving as main contact and responding and/or remediating potential findings
- Oversight/management of quarterly direct SBA business valuation and secondary market vendor activities
Compliance and Risk Management:
- Ensure all loans comply with SBA SOPs, federal regulations, and bank policies.
- Conduct regular audits and reviews of SBA loan files to mitigate risks.
- Address and resolve any compliance or documentation issues.
- Provide guidance and oversight on PPP issues
Process Optimization:
- Identify inefficiencies in SBA lending processes and implement improvements.
- Leverage technology to streamline workflows and enhance productivity.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Work closely with SBA lenders, credit officers, and external parties such as attorneys and appraisers.
- Monitor and train staff on SBA SOP, change notices and requirements
- Serve as the primary contact for SBA audits, guaranty purchase requests, and other SBA interactions.
Reporting and Analysis:
- Prepare and present reports on SBA portfolio performance, operational efficiency, and compliance metrics.
- Monitor SBA loan pipeline and ensure timely submissions for SBA approvals and funding.
Qualifications:
Experience:
- 7+ years of experience in SBA lending operations, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of SBA SOPs, 7(a) and 504 loan programs, and related compliance requirements.
Skills:
- Exceptional leadership and team management abilities.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in loan origination and servicing software (e.g., LaserPro, E-Tran).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Risk minded and revenue focused.
Competencies:
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- In-depth understanding of credit, underwriting, and loan processing workflows.
- Strong decision-making skills with a focus on risk management and customer service.
- Ability to judiciously collaborate and challenge risk teams.
Education:
- Bachelors degree in business, finance, or a related field.
Hours & Work Schedule
- Hours per Week: 40
- Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8 AM - 5 PM
