The Home Mortgage Bankruptcy Specialist is responsible for protecting the interests of Citizens' Bank when borrowers file for bankruptcy. This position requires a comprehensive understanding of bankruptcy pleadings, laws, and procedures. This role involves ensuring the timely and accurate filing of proof of claims, payment change notices, post-petition fees & costs notices, motions for relief from stay, notices of final cure, reaffirmation agreements, managing property valuations, monitoring payments, and liaising with network counsel, trustees, and the Bankruptcy Court. The specialist is also tasked with performing initial quality assurance on all documents to be filed, ensuring that no inaccurate information is presented to the courts or attorneys. Additionally, the role involves adhering to investor guidelines and risk management protocols, emphasizing the importance of providing precise and accurate information.

Primary responsibilities include

  • Ensure evidence of secured and unsecured debt is filed with the Court in a timely manner for all asset, GSE, and charged-off loans, ensuring borrowers pay what is owed if they wish to retain the property.
  • Refer motions, proofs of claim, payment change notices, post-petition fee and cost notices, adversaries, and reaffirmation agreements to network counsel for preparation. Ensure accuracy, redaction, timeliness, and completeness of attorney work products.
  • Reviews bankruptcy plan and repayment arrangements, as well as bankruptcy codes, laws and legislations, to minimize Citizens' losses and litigation.
  • Ensure delinquent loans during bankruptcy are referred to counsel within investor, regulatory, and Citizens' timelines.
  • Monitor and provide direction when needed on the application of all payments received during the bankruptcy process.
  • Perform reconciliations of the entire payment history to ensure borrowers are on track with payments, preventing delinquencies upon bankruptcy completion.
  • Interact with network counsel, trustees, and the Bankruptcy Court for referrals, pleadings, payments, and claims.
  • Handle disputes regarding property valuation by securing property appraisals, reviewing fair market value (FMV), and negotiating agreed orders.
  • Makes accurate bankrupt account documents and reports for management.
  • Deals with calls, mail, correspondence and deadlines related to bankruptcy cases.

Qualifications, Education, Certifications and/or Other Professional Credentials

  • Three or more years of experience in bankruptcy
  • Strong understanding of bankruptcy laws and regulations
  • Proficient in financial reconciliation and payment tracking
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, time management and organization skills
  • Detail oriented and self-motivated
  • Exceptional when participating in a team environment
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office products to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Proficient knowledge of MSP, Pacer, LexisNexis, Pivot, LoanSphere BKFS (ICE), Director, and National Data Center

Hours & Work Schedule

  • Hours per Week: 40
  • Work Schedule: Monday-Friday - This position is a hybrid position located in the Glen Allen Office, 3 days a week.
