Celebrating Pride 365: Inclusion in action
At Citizens, we value individuality, foster a sense of belonging and strive to make fair decisions within our organization and across the communities we serve. These commitments guide us year round. We were recognized with the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Equality 100 Award after earning a perfect score on the Corporate Equality Index, reflecting our ongoing commitment to culture and corporate responsibility that support LGBTQ+ inclusion.
Offering support and allyship all year long
Our goal is to help build stronger communities. We do that by investing in and volunteering for initiatives that raise awareness, advance inclusion and acceptance, and address systemic barriers to equality. Many of these efforts support LGBTQ+ communities, with a focus on areas like youth empowerment, economic opportunity and access to affordable housing.
Cultivating Pride through connection and involvement
Listening to our colleagues is at the core of how we build an inclusive culture. A key part of this effort is our Pride Business Resource Group (Pride BRG), sponsored by Citizens and led by colleagues. This dynamic group helps shape strategies, policies and initiatives through an inclusion-focused lens. Throughout the year, members host educational and social events, support community outreach and volunteer efforts, and share personal stories that help deepen understanding across our organization.
We believe that bringing together colleagues with different backgrounds and perspectives in a supportive environment strengthens engagement and fuels innovation and growth.
We also support colleagues who want to make an impact beyond the workplace. We offer paid volunteer time, including opportunities focused on LGBTQ+ causes, along with access to trainings and discussions that build awareness and allyship. Topics include gender identity, supporting colleagues through transition, addressing unconscious bias and creating more inclusive spaces for all.
Paving the way for an open, welcoming environment
We're committed to creating a workplace where colleagues feel safe to be their authentic selves. We support this through inclusive policies and practices that reflect our focus on respect, fairness and belonging:
- Maintaining a zero tolerance approach to harassment and workplace violence, with clear guidance that supports gender expression and identity
- Providing gender affirming and transition toolkits that:
- Help colleagues understand available support, benefits, legal resources and administrative updates
- Equip managers with guidance on supporting team members, respecting privacy and fostering an inclusive team environment
- Offer coworkers best practices for inclusion, including using correct names and pronouns and supporting one another with accountability
- Extending benefits to spouses and domestic partners regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation or family structure
- Offering access to legal support for needs such as adoption, estate planning and name or gender marker changes
- Supporting family planning, including adoption and surrogacy
- Providing comprehensive medical and mental health coverage, including gender affirming care and counseling
