Real Estate Risk Reviewer

Perform independent reviews of third-party reports on commercial property addressing environmental, flood, property condition and/or construction/seismic risk including memorializing such review in a comprehensive written format for the benefit of internal customers (Relationship Managers/Portfolio Managers; Credit Officers). 

Primary responsibilities include: 

  • Ascertain compliance of environmental, flood, property condition and/or construction/seismic reports with the applicable CFG scope of work and federal regulatory requirements and guidance.

  • Identify and quantify (if possible) the risk associated with the real estate collateral and provide any risk mitigants if available.

  • Research market data and complete independent research as needed on a transactional basis to conduct a validation or confirm the assumptions, findings and conclusions of the third-party vendor.

  • Direct, robust, and independent interaction with RMs/PMs, external vendors, Real Estate Risk Services (RERS) Analysts and RERS Senior Reviewers concerning individual RERS projects completed on a transactional basis including: interpretation of formal RERS requests submitted by RMs/PMs; interpretation of regulatory and policy requirements applicable to a particular transaction; scoping of the assignment; and, selection of the most appropriate vendor for the prospective project based upon licensing, experience, competency, familiarity with the property type, etc.

  • Assist in engagement of third-party vendors with respect to vendor selection, report type, report content, report format and contract authorization in accordance with master professional services agreements and bank policies and procedures.

  • Interact with senior management of Commercial Credit Risk and Commercial Lending regarding completed projects especially for those properties that represented a higher degree or real estate risk or otherwise have identified environmental, flood, property condition and/or construction/seismic issues or concerns.

  • Provide direct, responsive customer service to external vendors and internal customers (i.e., RMs/PMs/Division Executives/Credit Officers) that RERS supports and serve as the primary liaison and point-of-contact with both internal customers and external vendors with regard to regulatory requirements, identification and explanation of any issues of concern, and development/application of any potential risk mitigants.


Required Skills/Experience: 

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in a financial institution or consultancy addressing real estate issues related to environmental, flood, property conditions and/or construction/seismic risk

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Willingness to learn new aspects of real estate-related risk 

Education, Certifications and/or Other Professional Credentials: 

  • Bachelor's Degree (Required) in geology, resource development, environmental policy or affairs, construction management, or real estate management

  • Master's Degree (Preferred) in real estate finance, law degree or MBA

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday
