Principal Software Engineer

As a Principal Software Engineer, you’ll be leading a team of developers creating and supporting the next generation of web and mobile banking systems at Citizens Bank.

Primary responsibilities include:  

  • Taking responsibility for the development, testing strategy, maintenance, and operational aspects of a full stack team or teams of software engineers

  • Working closely with the Product Owners and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into achievable, actionable plans that guide development

  • Defining software standards, processes, and patterns that maximize the team and organization’s delivery of features to our customers

  • Developing secure, robust, and rich APIs powering our mobile and web banking experiences and third party integrations

  • Developing tools and automated solutions to enhance software development practices

  • Collaborating with team leads, designers, architects, and product owners to ensure development aligns with business expectations

  • Ensuring development meets quality standards and can be supported in a production environment


Required Skills/Experience:  

  • Experience as a team lead, or tech lead

  • Experience leading a team delivering features into a production environment

  • Experience leading design / whiteboarding sessions

  • 6+ years of software development experience

  • Experience working on an Agile team and translating business requirements into technical plans

  • Strong knowledge of OOP and REST design principles

  • Strong relational database experience

  • Experience with full stack frameworks like Node.js

  • Experience developing cloud and container based micro-service applications

  • Experience developing unit and integration tests alongside functional code

  • Ability to own the delivery of features into production 

Preferred Skills/Experience:  

  • Financial Services/Banking industry experience 

  • Experience developing and supporting consumer facing software systems in a production environment

Education, Certifications and/or Other Professional Credentials:   

  • Bachelor’s degree or 8+ years Software Development Experience in lieu of Degree

Hours per Week: 40

Work Schedule: M-F
