Description

We’re developing the next generation of leaders

You have a unique opportunity to jumpstart your career through hands-on, impactful projects, comprehensive training and development, and exposure to executive leadership, paving the way for a robust career at Citizens Bank.

Treasury and Balance Sheet Strategies (Treasury) manages risks inherent in balance sheet positions and off-balance-sheet commitments that are created by Citizens’ core business activities. Treasury teams manage liquidity and interest rate risk (IRR); oversee CBNA’s investment and hedging portfolios; and ensure capital adequacy, with consideration of both planned and stressed environments.  In addition, Treasury formulates methodologies, such as Funds Transfer Pricing (FTP) and Economic Capital (EC), to support business-specific risk-based pricing and returns; facilitates key governance and leadership forums, such as Asset-Liability Committee (ALCO), Deposit Strategy Committee (DSC) and Balance Sheet Optimization (BSO); and operates the Finance Strategic Delivery Office (FSDO) to efficiently implement critical initiatives across Finance.

The incumbent(s) will be trained in three different areas each for six month increments in pre-determined department within Treasury. The incumbent(s) will complete rotations in Boston and/or Providence, RI location.  Upon successful completion of the rotations he/she will be placed permanently in one of the departments in either Providence, RI or Boston, MA.

Training in each area will include, but is not limited to, the following within Treasury and Balance Sheet Strategies:

Asset Liability Management (ALM) forecasts Net Interest Income (NII) and Economic Value of Equity (EVE) under a range of interest rate scenarios to quantify and manage IRR and to inform funding, investment and hedging strategies. In addition to rate changes, scenarios model product options and customer behaviors to capture risks specific to Citizens’ business model. ALM Risk Analytics produces IRR scenarios and metrics, while Central Model Development oversees pre-provision net revenue (PPNR) modeling for base and stress test forecasting. The Funds Transfer Pricing (FTP) team develops methodologies to support risk-based pricing by the businesses and facilitate centralized liquidity and IRR management by Treasury.

Investment Portfolio and Institutional Hedging develops and executes securities and hedging strategies to support liquidity-driven collateral requirements, manage IRR, and help meet Citizens’ overall risk/return objectives. The Hedging team also provides expert guidance to support certain front-line hedging requirements, such as offsetting volatility of the Mortgage Servicing Rights valuation.

Funding& Liquidity (F&L) manages liquidity to ensure that both CFG and CBNA can meet their cash requirements under expected and unexpected conditions. The team monitors and responds to actual and projected changes in core positions - such as loan levels, loan commitments, deposit balances, wholesale borrowings, and capital - and executes wholesale funding strategies to ensure balanced cash flows over time. F&L also oversees the use of loans and investment securities as collateral for secured deposits and borrowings.

Capital Strategy & Analytics determines CFG’s and CBNA’s capacity for asset growth or acquisition given current and projected capital levels. The team determines dividend capacity and required capital actions for each entity, considering regulatory requirements, as well as internal and market expectations for financial and risk-based returns. The Economic Capital (EC) team develops and implements methodologies to allocate capital to the businesses in proportion to risk.

Treasury Capital Markets works with F&L and Capital Strategy and interfaces with investment bankers to access debt and capital markets. This team manages senior and subordinated debt transactions on behalf of CBNA and CFG, as well as common share repurchases and preferred share issuances on behalf of CFG.

Deposit Strategy collaborates with Citizens’ front-line product and finance teams to optimize the growth and mix of Citizens’ deposit base in relation to funding and liquidity requirements as well as financial goals. The team delivers key analytics and reporting, and facilitates the Deposit Strategy Committee to: syndicate funding and liquidity and margin requirements; benchmark competitive practices; and optimize segment, product, and pricing strategies.

Balance Sheet Optimization (BSO) Strategy engages Corporate Strategy and Consumer and Commercial Banking to optimize balance sheet growth and composition. The team monitors key risk and financial performance measures and leads a collaborative program to identify and execute specific business strategies to improve risk-adjusted returns, benefit and align Net Interest Margin (NIM) with peer performance, and continuously improve operating leverage.
