We are Citizens helping Citizens.
We understand that a good bank is at the heart of a community and that investing in our communities enriches us all. Join our team and you’ll have opportunities to become actively involved in our programs noted below assisting those in need.
Colleagues are encouraged to take advantage of the many volunteer opportunities offered through the Citizens Bank Giving Portal. Over the past year, our colleagues contributed 70,000+ volunteer hours.
Now more than ever, people need a roof over their heads and a warm place to stay. Through contributions and partnerships, we support homeless shelters, transitional housing, and successful homeownership and foreclosure prevention programs. A few of our partners include Dollar Energy Fund (Pittsburgh), Pine Street Inn (MA), Families in Transition (NH), and Committee on Temporary Shelter (VT).
We believe in supporting those who answer the call to serve. Through the Military Warriors Support Foundation, we funded, and our colleagues helped renovate, a mortgage-free home for the Bacon family in Rhode Island in 2015 and the Blizinski family in Michigan in 2016.
Teaching Money Management:
When you’re more informed about your finances, you’re able to make better decisions. We are committed to helping our neighbors reach their financial goals. In 2016 as part of our annual Financial Literacy initiative, we contributed more than $1.3 million to more than 77 nonprofit financial education programs in our local communities. We have more than 400 colleague volunteers trained in FDIC Money Smart curriculum, who are helping to teach financial literacy through local organizations across our footprint.
Many of our neighbors lack reliable access to food on a daily basis. Citizens addresses this need by supporting innovative programs and organizations that provide access to nutritious food. Here are just some of the organizations we reach out to help feed our neighbors in need:: Greater Boston Food Bank (MA), Gleaners Community Food Bank (MI), Philabundance (PA), Rhode Island Community Food Bank (RI), and Greater Cleveland Food Bank (OH).
Together with The Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB), we work hard to end hunger in eastern Massachusetts. We offer volunteer support and sponsor two refrigerated trucks greatly enhancing GBFB's ability to respond to increased community need through distribution of nutritious food to 550 member agencies. In all, we have provided more than 600,000 meals and over 500 hours of employee time to support GBFB's mission. Citizens Bank also supports the purchase of highly nutritious food during the summer months for the Kids Cafe program, which provides meals for 1,230 children in need at seven area Boys & Girls Clubs five days per week.
We give back by investing in resources that create solutions to the toughest challenges in our neighborhoods. Across the footprint, we support programs that offer services in the areas of economic development, job training and neighborhood revitalization. Through our Champions in Action program, we provide financial, promotional and volunteer support for nonprofit organizations that are working to meet critical needs in our communities.
Credo Champions for Community:
Annually, colleagues can nominate themselves, or another colleague or team, for this award. Winners are chosen by a selection committee and one winning colleague or team is named in each market where we have branches. This award recognizes colleagues who bring our Credo to life in their communities through volunteerism. Winners are selected from each market and will be able to designate a nonprofit organization to receive a $2,500 bank contribution.
Champions in Action provides financial, promotional and volunteer support for nonprofits. It serves the needs of many diverse neighborhoods. We award nonprofit organizations that make a difference and partner with local media outlets to provide promotional support. Awards are given out twice a year in seven of our markets. Since 2003, we’ve partnered with more than 250 Champions in Action® and invested more than $6 million in charitable grants to improve the quality of life throughout our communities.
You give a dollar; we give a dollar - that’s the idea behind our Matching Gifts program. It’s an easy way to double your gifts to eligible nonprofit organizations. In 2015, we donated $900,000 in matched donations.
